Learn More About the Cast of Star Trek (2009)

Audiences will get their first glimpse of Christopher Pine as James T. Kirk when Star Trek (2009) hits theaters May 8, but chances are they've seen him in other movies.

Pine certainly does not have the name recognition of William Shatner, the actor who played the original Captain Kirk from Gene Roddenberry's classic Star Trek series, but he certainly has not come out of nowhere. Entertainment Weekly ranked him 27th on their "30 under 30" list in 2008 and it also helps that both of his parents made their living in Hollywood. Some facts about Pine's early life and career:

  • His father Robert Pine played Sargeant Joseph Getraer opposite actor Eric Estrada on the NBC TV series "CHiPs" in the 1970's.
  • His mother Gwynn Gilford played Mrs. Winston in the 1987 movie "Masters of the Universe". Dolph Lundgren played He-Man in that movie with Frank Langella from the 2008 film Frost/ Nixon playing Skeletor.
  • He Grew up in Los Angeles and ended up attending UC Berkeley before focusing on his acting Career.

Christopher Pine's Appearances in Television

As children, Chris and his sister Katie used to visit their parents on set so it was no surprise when one of them chose a career in acting. Christopher Pine eventually broke into Hollywood with appearances in several popular television series in the early 2000's. Pine made notable appearances in these Television series:

  • Played Tommy Chandler in an episode of the CBS Network series CSI: Miami titled "The Guardian" (2003)
  • Played Levine in an episode of the NBC Network series ER titled "A Thousand Cranes"
  • Played Joey Tremain in an episode of the USA Network series American Dreams titled "Tidings and Comfort for Joy" (2004)
  • Played Young Sam in an episode of the HBO network series Six Feet Under titled "Dancing for me" (2005)
  • Played Lonnie Grandy in an episode of the CBS Network series The Guardian titled "Hazel Park" (2003)

Christopher Pine's Film Career

Pine snags the leading role in the J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek (2009), but he's also had commercial success opposite Anne Hathaway and Lindsey Lohan. Pine appeared as Lord Nicholas Devereax, nephew of Anne Hatheway's character Mia Thermopolis, in Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004).

Pine once again played a love interest to a young Hollywood actress in the film Just My Luck (2006). This time he played Jake Hardin a band manager who swaps his bad luck with New Yorker Ashley Albright played by Lindsey Lohan.

Pine's also made appearances in these movies:

  • Appeared as Chris in Why Germany (2004)
  • Appeared as Luther Scott in Confessions (2005)
  • Appeared as Darwin Tremor in Smokin Aces (2006)
  • Appeared as Bo Barrett in Bottle Shock (2008)
